2004 chevy silverado 5.3L - test group name issue

F.U.BAR
This post was updated on .
2004 Chevy Silverado 5.3L with aftermarket CAT D-193-100, part# 445005.

Underhood label has this test group name: 3GMXT06.0187

Aftermarket CAT database specifies this EO (D-193-100, part# 445005) for this truck, but lists this test group name for this CAT: 4GMXT05.3170

According to the EO for D-193-100, 3GMXT06.0187 is for a 2003 6L engine.

Do I fail it?

That's for a 2003 Chevy/GMC/Cadillac with a 6.0L

Timmy, Do you mean the CAT or the test group name? I thought that the test group name was for 6L only, but it is on this 2004 5.3L underhood label...

Well what year is the vehicle really? What year does label say? Cat seems to be legal for 2003 5.3/6 and 2004 5.3/6 so it sounds like pass it.

The label, sounds like the label is wrong for the vehicle.

I had this exact thing earlier in the week on a 2005. The underhood label says 5.3L and the engine family number is ...06.0187. The Catalytic converter data base shows only EFN ...05.3...  I failed it and sent it to the Referee.

I have had several times that the "test group"(EFN) shows a different engine size that the displacement on the same label.

I read that wrong...

You can plug your phone into the PC, and when you upload from the site you can see your phone under file management and grab it.

Or I usually just email the pic to myself and upload.

This may be a referee issue cause the engine family is correct for the part but the application is a 2003. Good fucking question!

Charge more cause this shit is confusing!

Actually it is a mistake on sticker. Ref it. It sucks. Not your car, not your problem.

I don't think there is any mistake on those stickers. I see several brands that have "Test Group Numbers" that include several displacements. I see it on Dodge 5.2L and 5.9L often.

I think it is exactly as "JUST THE FACTS" explained it.

Well the problem is that if that is the case then there are no legal aftermarket cats for a 2004 5.3 with that 6.0 test group number. I think the real problem is ARB makes mistakes and does not accept feedback from us. What is the point of including the displacement in the test group name if it does not necessarily reflect  the actual displacement?

Here are two more I had on my phone that have different displacement than the EFN shows.

BTW 360ci is 5.9L not 5.2L. 318ci is 5.2L.

Hey D I think I got it now. I'm still a little lost on my Chromebook and can't figure out how to open it with paint but at least I could post it.

Congratulations!

I think I understand this now, that 5.2 in the ARB database has the 318 family as a MDV2 and 360 as a MDV3. So I think that even though it is less displacement it runs so shitty that they classify it as a higher displacement, or something like that. Still, these jerks need to clean up that crappy webpage and start putting notes for the people that use it on a daily basis. Otherwise they are depriving the people of CA of the protection afforded to them by the smog program.

I haven't had that problem here at all.  I'm using Chrome on an old beat-up Vista machine.
