True, Not one of us had a gun pointed to our head that told us we need to do this day in and day out. It's just that some of us are good at it.
This could get me in lots of trouble, but the next time a BAR PR pulls that one on you, asked, Then ask the PR why do you do the job. It's "Voluntary Job"
In your Voluntary job, do you not "Enforce" rules that you know are BULL?
Let's take FPR. You mean you work for a place that tells you I have seen a vehicle for maybe 20 minutes and am responsible for how it is taken care of for the next two years?
You work "Voluntary" for agency that tells you I'm responsible for how a transmission shifts. What tires the people put on there vehicles.
You Volunteer daily to get up and Enforce rules you know in your heart are not right. Everyday you get up and as a volunteer, to bust the chops of shop owners. You volunteer to be the heavy? Doesn't that get old.
You get up to go be the heavy because a person missed that they did the car on the wrong machine.
A Motorcycle cop. He gets up every day and goes to work to be a asshole.
Mr PR, no one put a gun to your head and said do this job, so why do you enforce rules you KNOW are BS?
then why dont you call your local bar office and ask them? what stopping you from picking up the phone and asking your question? yea make them think about YOUR shop the less time they spend looking at my shop the better. i have a great relationship with my local bar rep, and do ask him questions i need answers to. i call him direct, but not to be a smart ass and challenge the people who can send more or less uc my way. This site is to help fight the star program, buy helping each other out with useful information, that can help us stay on the straight and narrow path of checking car the proper way. not to just rant, that is what facebook and personal blogs are for.
in a past experience, i had at a different shop 2 times with the same bar rep. first my boss did a test drive for a customer on a late weekend. found nothing charged customer 20 dollars. who can guess what happens next. customer called bar and my rep was that monday. im like oh shit its ***** but then starts talking to my boss. ask for work order ect. he ended up writing a 20 dollar check back to the customer case closed he was gone.
next time i seen my bar rep same shop. we left a older Nissan just had the head redone idling in the alley way we share with other businesses. It was smoking like crazy so my boss left it in the ally to not smoke out the shop. few days pass bar rep comes back, ask our side of story boss tells him just fixed it was smoking ect. rep tells us honestly that guy who complained is an asshole i dont like his attitude. wrote some notes case closed.
bar shows up when people complain, less complaints less worries. bar is not that bad in my personal experiences. neither experience was related to the smog check program it self just auto complaints in general. if you smog by the book, and dont do crooked smogs why worry so much. have a question ask! cant find an answer send it out!
An occasional rant is permitted on this forum . I occassionally rant also .There is something to be learned from rants if you listen . If you don't like rants , if thats what you are calling them , then don't read them . telling us what this site is for is not a democractic comment .
occasional is fine but everyday 2 times a day, usually hypothetical situations get old, i do ignore most of them even based on the views when he is the original poster show others ignore em too. it just gets old. like the guy who shared with us about loosing his pet, no problem with that we are his peers and here for support when needed.
Best, Just 2 visits. Damn you are one lucky man. That or you are new to the field. Or just don't do a lot of smog checks.
Us Old Farts, How many times have you had a "Visit by The BAR"? At least over 50 closer to 100. WHY?
Back when the BAR had Manpower, a shop doing smog check was to see a PR every 6 months. Test Only every 3. The PR had one job and one job only. To be a asshole. Find something wrong with the shop. WHY? Because if he didn't his boss would tell him he is not doing his job. After all, all people doing smog check are cheaters.
The BAR Pre Sheri had close to 3000 people now @ 600. Manpower of 600? They cannot afford to send out PR's like they did. You see a PR now when someone files a complaint. Before Sheri, regular smog test and repair no less than once a year. Test Only Min 3 times a year. One job and one job only, TELL YOU WHAT YOU WERE DOING WRONG.
And YES I have had bent PR's.
This job and all JOBS are VOLUNTARY. I believe I make people smile. Nice job to have. A VOLUNTARY job to go out and be a dick? Now that takes a Special Person.
